SPECTRAL MEMORIES
Spectral Memories is the first part of a tryptic series that questions the role of the home in the post-modern era. It is a memorial to the Floreal trailer park, in Boortmeerbeek, Belgium, closed by judicial decision, that has remained empty of inhabitants ever since. As the people had 3 days to leave the place, they left most of their belongings behind - making the Floreal a very unique ghost village. The park is currently being destroyed and reshaped into a tailor-made social housing - as a pilot project for the handling of the trailer park problematic in Belgium. Spectral Memories is exploring transition of the last possible alternative housing in the country, and in extension, of Western Europe. We decided to combine the different empty spaces & the belongings left by the former inhabitants together with carefully profiled models in order to recreate the key atmospheres that made this place so unique in the Belgian landscape. The series comes with a music that completes the visuals - please do hit the play button at the end of this text while scrolling down. We are also displaying a few images of the different locations we shot, to emphase on how little fiction was actually used. "Spectral Memories" was shot in medium format on portra 800 push +2. This site displays a digital version of our work which will be superseded by it's final printed destination.
